Cluster Architecture 2-25 Summary of I/O Path Failure and Failover Scenarios for Redundant Fibre Channel Fabrics Table 2-3 identifies possible I/O path failure events for both dual redundancy or quad redundancy configurations in a redundant Fibre Channel Fabric and the failover response implemented by Secure Path for each failure. Table 2-3 I/O Path Failure and Failover Scenarios for Redundant Fibre Channel Fabrics Description of Failure A single port on an array controller fails. One array controller in a storage subsystem fails. The Fibre Channel cable connection between an array controller and its Fibre Channel SAN Switch is broken. A Fibre Channel SAN Switch fails. The Fibre Channel cable connection between a host adapter and a Fibre Channel SAN Switch is broken. A host adapter fails. Failover Response The I/O path to the defined backup array controller port takes over all I/O activity. The I/O paths to both ports on the other array controller take over all I/O activity. The I/O path to the defined backup array controller port takes over all I/O activity. The I/O paths for another fabric take over all I/O activity. The I/O path from the host adapter in the node that is connected to the defined backup array controller port takes over all I/O activity. The I/O path from the host adapter in the same node that is connected to the defined backup array controller port takes over all I/O activity.
