Blade Sharpening iMPORTANT:If any metal separationis present,replacethe blades with newones. Toproperlysharpenthe cuttingblades,removeequal amountsof metalfrom bothends of the bladesalong thecuttingedges, parallelto the trailingedge,at a 250to 300angle, Figure21. REPLACING BELTS Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenanceon themachine,waitfor all partsto stopmovinganddisconnecthe sparkplugwire. Failureto followthis instructioncouldresultin personalinjuryor propertydamage Avoidthe possibilityof a pinchinginjury. Donot placeyourfingers betweenbeltsand pulleys. Blade Installation 1. Wheninstallinga blade,placethe sideof the blade with a part numberstampedin it facing thegroundwhenthe moweris in the operatingposition. 2. Use a torquewrenchto tightenthe spindleflangenutto between 70-90foot-pounds. The mowerusesthreebelts: 1)drivebelt,2) deck engagemenbt elt,3) bladetimingbelt. Beforereplacinga belt,observehowthebeltis routed aroundthe pulleysand bracketsto helpwheninstallinga replacement. IMPORTANTT: he beltson the mowerare speciallydesignedto engageand disengagesafely.Fora properworkingmachine,use factoryapprovedbelts. Replacing the Drive Belt 1. Stopengine,wait forall parts to stop moving,and disconnect sparkplug wire. . Releaseall mowercontrols. 3. Removebelt coveras instructedearlier in this section. 4. Loosenbeltkeeper(A).The belt keeperis attachedto the undersideof the mowerframe,Figure22. Figure22 5. Loosenthe idler pulley(B) by looseningboltand nut, Figure22. 6.
