CAUTION: To prevent static damage to components inside your computer, discharge static electricity from your body before you touch any of your computer's electronic components. You can do so by touching an unpainted metal surface on the computer chassis. Removing the System Fan 1. Follow the procedures in Working on Your Computer. 2. Remove the computer cover (see Removing the Computer Cover). 3. Remove the heat sink assembly (see Removing the Processor). 4. Disconnect the power and data cables from the hard drive. 5. Disconnect the system fans power cable from the system board. 1 retention tab 2 system fan power cable 6. Pull the retention tab at the base of the fan assembly. 7. Press the retention tab close to the hard drive assembly. 8. Slide the system fan towards the back of the computer to remove the system fan assembly from the computer. Installing the System Fan 1. To install the system fan follow the removal procedure in the reverse order. 2. Close the computer cover (see Replacing the Computer Cover). Back to Contents Page

Removing the System Fan
1.
Follow the procedures in
Working on Your Computer
.
2.
Remove the computer cover (see
Removing the Computer Cover
).
3.
Remove the heat sink assembly (see
Removing the Processor
).
4.
Disconnect the power and data cables from the hard drive.
5.
Disconnect the system fans power cable from the system board.
6.
Pull the retention tab at the base of the fan assembly.
7.
Press the retention tab close to the hard drive assembly.
8.
Slide the system fan towards the back of the computer to remove the system fan assembly from the computer.
Installing the System Fan
1.
To install the system fan follow the removal procedure in the reverse order.
2.
Close the computer cover (see
Replacing the Computer Cover
).
