The router is then able to act as a proxy for the discovered hosts and perform IGMP tasks upstream of the discovered hosts. Where there are multiple IGMP hosts downstream, this removes the need to send multiple messages. BigIron RX switch having L2 interfaces configured

with snooping to pull traffic from upstream sources

using IGMP joins. When using the uplink option, you

avoid burning a dedicated port.

This is supported

for IGMP v2 and v3.

IGMP Proxy per VLAN or

Introduced in version 02.6.00 of the Multi-Service

IronWare software, multicast traffic can be reduced

by configuring an BigIron RX switch to issue IGMP

host messages on behalf of hosts that the

configured router discovers through standard PIM

interfaces. The router is then able to act as a proxy

for the discovered hosts and perform IGMP tasks

upstream of the discovered hosts. Where there are

multiple IGMP hosts downstream, this removes the

need to send multiple messages.
