Microprocessor Replacement Microprocessor latches are intended to provide removal and initial insertion assistance. To complete the removal of a microprocessor, initially use the latch to partially remove a microprocessor from its socket. Then grasp the microprocessor and heat sink assembly with both hands and lift it up and out of its socket and guide bracket. To complete the insertion of a microprocessor, firmly press the microprocessor into its socket until it is completely seated and the latch closes freely. Microprocessor Speed The Dell PowerEdge 8450 Systems User's Guide states that the system supports microprocessors with an internal operating frequency of 500 MHz. However, it should be noted that microprocessors with internal operating frequencies of 800 MHz or higher are supported. Setting Microprocessor Speed Jumpers When changing or upgrading microprocessors, you must verify that the microprocessor speed jumper settings are correctly configured for the new microprocessors. See the system information label and Appendix A of your system's Installation and Troubleshooting Guide for a list of processor speeds and the corresponding jumper settings. For microprocessors operating at internal speeds faster than those listed, use the speed jumper setting for the fastest microprocessor listed. Operating System Clock Setting and System Event Log If the system clock setting within the operating system is changed or updated, you should reboot the system if you require accurate time-stamping of system log events. Otherwise, any system events that are logged after the time change will be timestamped with respect to the original time setting. Event log time stamps will not be referenced to the new time setting until the system is rebooted. There are no other issues associated with changing the system time; if the accurate time-reporting of system events is not a concern, rebooting is not required. support.dell.com Information Update 1-5
