Maintenance Messages CAUTION: Once the toner cartridge has been installed, do not remove it until you are prompted to do so by the control panel display. Otherwise, toner can spill into the printer. See the transportation section in this chapter if you need to ship the printer when it has toner in it. 18. Check the indicator light on the drum replacement cartridge. (You should do this each time you change the toner cartridge.) This indicator helps you monitor usage of the drum, which must be replaced every 10,000 pages: l Green light (0 - 7,500 sheets): The drum unit can print at least 2,500 pages more and does not need to be replaced. l Orange light (7,501 - 9,900 sheets): Make sure you have a drum unit in stock. You have fewer than 2,500 pages to print before the CHANGE DRUM message appears. l Red light (9,901 - 10,000 sheets): You have fewer than 100 pages to print before the CHANGE DRUM message appears. You may wish to replace the drum unit as soon as you see this red light.
