Protecting the Hard Disk Drive Your hard disk drive is designed for travel and lots of use. Follow these precautions, however, to protect your data and prolong hard disk life. Never turn off or reset the computer when it is copying data to or from the hard disk drive (the indicator light is on). Never remove the hard disk drive when the computer is on. After turning the power off, wait 20 seconds before moving the computer. This allows the disks in the drive to stop spinning and the read/write heads to lock in place.
