Caring for the Forerunner The Forerunner 301 is constructed of high quality materials and does not require user maintenance other than cleaning. Clean the unit and the heart rate monitor using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that may damage plastic components. The wrist strap should be hand-washed with mild detergent in warm or hot water. Blot dry, then air dry. Do not machine wash. To remove the wrist strap: 1. Place the Forerunner on a cloth or soft surface to avoid scratching the case. 2. Hold the Forerunner steady with one hand. With the other hand, use a flat-head screwdriver or a jeweler's band pin removing tool to pull one spring bar's loaded stem back so that it clears the edge of the case. Repeat with the other spring bar. 3. To reinstall, insert the spring bar into the wrist band and place one side of the bar into one pinhole. 4. Compress the spring bar and snap it into the other pinhole. Repeat with the other spring bar.
