If you wish to listen to a Compact Disc without playing it through your stereo system, simply plug a pair of stereo headphones into the HEADPHONES (17) jack on the front of the HD800. The OUTPUT (18) volume control not only controls the volume of the HEADPHONES output, but also controls the overall output from the HD800 to your stereo system. Thus it may be used in conjunction with "CD direct" inputs which bypass preamplifier tone, volume and balance controls.
