THE HARMAN-KARDON SC6 CONTROL CENTER (Cont.) and is controlled by the on/off switch on the front panel. Any auxiliary equipment may be plugged into this outlet. The rating of the equipment should not exceed 200 watts. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS FOR STEREO OPERATION A 24-foot speaker cable has been supplied with this control center. Each end of the cable is equipped with a molded RCA type plug for easy installation with any HARMAN-KARDON speaker system. The wire may be dressed along the molding or along the edge of the rug for a neat and inconspicuous installation. Do NOT drive staples or tacks into the center of the wire since this could cause a short between the two sections which would result in distortion, diminished volume, or, at worst, a blown output fuse. Connect one end of the speaker wire to the left receptacle of the speaker output terminal, and the other end to the left HARMAN-KARDON HK30 or HK40 speaker system. (The input connector is located on the rear of the HARMAN-KARDON speaker, near the high frequency balance control). In the same manner, connect the other speaker wire to the right speaker receptacle on the speaker output terminal strip and the other end to the right HARMAN-KARDON speaker system. If you are not using HARMAN-KARDON speakers, clip the molded RCA plugs from one end of each speaker cable and attach them to the standard screw terminals on the rear of the speakers. Be sure your speakers are properly phased. SPEAKER PHASING When more than one speaker is used in any music reproducing system, the speakers must be connected so they work together rather than work out of phase. If one speaker is pushing air out while the other is moving in the opposite direction, the result will be diminished bass response. To check for proper phase and/or to correct for same if necessary is quite simple. 1. Place a stereophonic recording on your record player. 2. Place the function selector in the PHONO MONO mode. 3. Play the record. The sound should emerge from approximately the center area between the two speakers. 4. While the record is playing, place the Function switch in the Phono Stereo position. 5. The sound should now move across the wall of the room and should appear to come from both speakers as well as the center. 6. If your speakers are out-of-phase, the sound source will not pinpoint itself between the two speakers when the switch is in

Do
NOT
drive
staples
or

into
the
center
of
the
wire
since
this
could
cause
a
short
between
the
two
sec-

which
would
result
in
distortion,
diminished
volume,
or,
at
worst,
a
blown
output

Connect
one

to
the

In
the

If
you
are
not
using

of
each
speaker
cable
and
attach
them
to
the
standard
screw
terminals
on
the
rear
of
the
speakers.
Be
sure
your
speakers
are
properly
phased.
SPEAKER
PHASING
When
more
than
one
speaker
is
used
in
any
music
reproducing
system,
the
speakers
must
be
connected
so
they
work
together
rather
than
work
out
of
phase.
If
one
speaker
is
pushing
air
out
while
the
other
is
moving
in
the
opposite
direction,
the
result
will
be
diminished
bass
response.
To
check
for
proper
phase
and/or
to
correct
for
same
if
necessary
is
quite
simple.
1.
Place
a
stereophonic
recording
on
your
record
player.
2.
Place
the
function
selector
in
the
PHONO
MONO
mode.
3.
Play
the
record.
The
sound
should
emerge
from
approximately
the
center
area
between
the
two
speakers.
4.
While
the
record
is
playing,
place
the
Function
switch
in
the

position.
5.
The
sound
should
now
move
across
the
wall
of
the
room
and
should
appear
to
come
from
both
speakers
as
well
as
the
center.
6.
If
your
speakers
are
out
-of
-phase,
the
sound
source
will
not
pinpoint
itself
between
the
two
speakers
when
