• Duplicate online redo logs. Oracle maintains duplicate online redo logs at two or more locations. HP recommends that these locations be on different virtual disks. Oracle resources mode The replication manager can interact with Oracle applications to perform the following: • Start a database • Stop a database • Put tablespaces in (hot) backup mode • Put tablespaces in online mode When you use GUI actions to replicate Oracle resources, this interaction occurs automatically. When you create a job, the job must include the proper command and argument. See the SetOracleModeUsingRepository job command. Repositories for Oracle resources The replication manager creates a repository whenever a database or tablespace is replicated using a GUI action or a template-based job. Each repository maintains information about the replicated database, tablespaces, and the associated datafiles and archived redo logs. This simplifies replication (backup) and restore (recovery) tasks. • A list of repositories is displayed in the GUI. See viewing Oracle resources. • Job commands allow you to create and use repositories in jobs. See job commands list. • Repository names are automatically assigned by the replication manager. The format is Catalog yyyymmdd.hh.mm.ss, for example: Catalog 20051218.024153 NOTE: The term repository, as used by the replication manager, does not refer to any Oracle product or utility. Security credentials for Oracle databases For the replication manager to interact with an Oracle application, an account for the replication manager must be established by an Oracle database administrator. See the HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager installation guide and HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager administrator guide. For the replication manager to interact with an Oracle database, a valid security credential for the database must be present in the replication manager database. See setting security credentials for Oracle databases. IMPORTANT: If a valid security credential is not entered or if the credential expires or is changed, the replication manager (GUI and jobs) will not be able to interact with the Oracle database. Oracle database security credentials (user name and password) must be provided for the following cases: • New Oracle database. To add a new Oracle database to the replication manager database, an administrator must enter a valid security credential. • Changed credentials. To update the security credential that is saved in the database, an administrator must enter a new security credential in the Set Credentials window. • Imported RSM database. After importing an RSM database that includes Oracle resources, an administrator must re-enter the security credentials. 400 Oracle
