1 Configuring an Embedded 1068 Controller as the Boot Controller on HP BL860c and BL870c Blade Servers Configuring the Embedded 1068 Controller To configure your embedded 1068 controller as the system boot controller on BL860c and BL870c blade servers, you must complete a series of steps that can be divided into 2 procedures: • Procedure #1: Configure the storage adapters • Procedure #2: Load the OEM boot driver and install Windows NOTE: The DVD-ROM drive described in the following steps must be an external drive that connects to a USB port on the BL860c or BL870c, since these servers do not provide an internal DVD-ROM drive. Also, the procedures described in this document are required for systems running Windows Server 2003. Because systems running Windows Server 2008 can recognize Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs) on the SAS device path, these procedures are not absolutely required on those systems. However, they are still highly recommended, since it is always a good practice to mirror the system boot drive for redundancy. Procedure #1: Configure the Storage Adapters To configure the storage adapters, complete the following steps: 1. Boot the server with your Smart Setup media in the DVD-ROM drive. It may take a minute or two for the disk to initialize, so please be patient. 2. The following text displays, where is the EBSU version number and is a timer that counts down from 5 to 1.
