Windows NT 4.0 and Compaq-Value-Added Feature Considerations

Operating System Support for Compaq Portable Products 13 Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3, Service Pack 4, and Service Pack 5 (SP5) are supported on most models within the LTE 5000 and Armada families. Refer to Table 2 for information on supported operating systems by portable family. Microsoft periodically releases updates to the Windows NT 4.0 operating system in the form of Microsoft Service Packs. To date, there have been five Service Packs released. Each Service Pack typically includes upgrades, patches, and new software components that introduce new functionality. Once a Service Pack has been installed it is integrated into the operating system. Note: Each version of a Microsoft Service Pack typically includes all necessary upgrades, patches and functionality enhancements included in prior releases. In order to have the latest update from Microsoft it is only necessary to install the latest Service Pack. On portable platforms where Windows NT 4.0 is the preinstalled operating system, Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 4 is also preinstalled. All Compaq portable products that support Windows NT 4.0 support both Service Pack 3 and Service Pack 4. Compaq does not support Service Pack 2, Service Pack 1, or the retail version of Windows NT 4.0 without Service Pack 3, Service Pack 4 or Service Pack 5 installed. Compaq recommends an upgrade to Service Pack 4 for customers who have not installed any Service Pack or who are using an earlier Service Pack version. Besides meeting stringent internal criteria for Windows NT 4.0 compatibility, all Compaq portable products have passed the rigorous Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Test. Windows NT 4.0 and Compaq-Value-Added Feature Considerations In addition to providing enhanced performance and a more stable operating environment, Windows NT 4.0 provides many new features and support for new hardware technologies over its predecessor, Windows NT 3.51. Windows NT 4.0 does not support many of the mobile features that Windows 9x customers have come to expect. However, Compaq software enhancements do extend functionality and provide mobile users with critical functionality such as power management and PC Card support. Refer to Table 7 for general information on Compaq software enhancements provided for Windows NT 4.0.
