Operating System Support for Compaq Portable Products 15 helps ensure wide and varied testing of Compaq Armada products by Compaq, Microsoft, and joint customers. Windows 2000 Hardware Requirements Microsoft will publish minimum hardware requirements for running Windows 2000 on portable PCs prior to the commercial availability of Windows 2000. Microsoft is currently promoting a "Windows 2000 READY PC" program that advertises systems that meet recommended standards for running Windows 2000. These recommended standards exceed the minimum requirements, but are considered by Microsoft to be the ideal capabilities for upgrading to Windows 2000. Table 8 shows the READY PC requirements. Compaq was a participant in the early Ready PC program in 1998 and will continue to participate in 1999 on selected Armada models. Many Armada models meet the minimum hardware requirements for running Windows 2000, and a significant subset of those also meet the more stringent READY PC requirements. Table 8. Windows 2000 Feature Considerations Windows 2000 promises to offer premier support for mobile platforms. Many of the features provided by Compaq value-add software in Windows NT 4.0 now become part of the operating system. Most notably, Windows 2000 has full support for ACPI power management and PC Cards. Windows 2000 Hardware Requirements
