IOPn.Diskx Enable Bad Block Remap Warning: Read all instructions in this section before using this command. Bad block remapping can be used to replace disk sectors containing bad spots with undamaged sectors during a mirror copy. It is possible that bad block remapping might cause file system information loss to occur, depending on whether the sector in which the bad block was encountered is in use by your file system. If you choose to enable bad block remapping, you are acknowledging that data residing in any bad disk sectors may be lost. For this reason, you should back up all partitions on this disk before you invoke this command. If the sector is not in use by your file system, bad block remapping causes no loss of file system information. This command permits the SCSI software to remap bad blocks automatically during a mirror copy for the source disk, indicated by Diskx. To enable bad block remapping for multiple devices, invoke this command multiple times - once for each SCSI disk for which you want to enable bad block remapping. This command can be issued before, during, or after a mirror copy. Sector numbers of remapped bad blocks are logged for informational and diagnostic purposes. Bad block remapping is enabled for the device indicated by Diskx. When you enable bad block remapping, any additional bad blocks encountered are remapped, not just the one that caused the mirror copy to fail. See Also 5-30 After you enable bad block remapping for the device, use the command Reset Mirror Copy to cause mirror copying to begin again. Once the mirror copy completes successfully, the system automatically turns off bad block remapping.
