Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power cord. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 36). Remove the hard drive: 1. Position the computer with the front toward you. 2. Loosen the two Phillips PM2.0×5.0 captive screws (1) that secure the hard drive cover to the computer. 3. Lift the left side of the hard drive cover (2) and swing it to right. 4. Remove the hard drive cover. NOTE: The hard drive cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 464114-001. 5. Grasp the Mylar tab (1) on the hard drive and lift the hard drive to disconnect it from the system board. 38 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures

Before removing the hard drive, follow these steps:

Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.

Disconnect the power cord.

Remove the battery (see

).
Remove the hard drive:

Position the computer with the front toward you.

Loosen the two Phillips PM2.0×5.0 captive screws

that secure the hard drive cover to the
computer.

Lift the left side of the hard drive cover

and swing it to right.

Remove the hard drive cover.
NOTE:
The hard drive cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 464114-001.

Grasp the Mylar tab
(1)
on the hard drive and lift the hard drive to disconnect it from the system
board.
