Setting Up Your Camera The number of photos a memory card can store depends on the memory card's storage capacity and the settings that you choose for each photo. The number is a conservative estimate, so you might find that you can take more photos than it indicates. Memory card indicator You can also check the status of the memory card using the memory card indicator on the color LCD. For example, you can see from the indicator in the graphic that the memory card is more than half full. Formatting a Memory Card Most CompactFlash memory cards are already formatted when you buy them. But if you buy a memory card that has not been formatted, you need to format it before you can use it in the camera. To format a memory card: 1. Insert the memory card and turn the camera on. The camera can be in any mode. If the memory card is not formatted, the color LCD displays a message asking if you want to format the memory card. 2. Press the Format button (left soft key).
