Getting Started Solving General Problems (Continued) Problem Poor performance is experienced. Serial peripheral device with internal power source does not power on. Cause Processor is hot. Hard drive is full. The device does not have an external power source and the serial port is configured as a "standard" serial port instead of a "powered" serial port. Solution 1. Make sure the airflow to the computer is not blocked. 2. Make sure the fans are connected and working properly (some fans only operate when needed). 3. Make sure the processor heatsink is installed properly. Transfer data from the hard drive to create more space on the hard drive. Reset the two red serial port jumpers from pins 2 and 3 to pins 1 and 2. This reconfigures the port from "standard" to "powered" mode. See the Hardware Reference Guide on the Documentation CD for instructions on resetting the jumpers. Getting Started www.hp.com 13
