But please note that once you reboot the system, OS will reload the setting in the BIOS. # /sbin/hdparm -W 1 /dev/sda (Turn on WCE in Linux) or # /sbin/hdparm -W 0 /dev/sda (Turn off WCE in Linux) You can confirm by running: # /sbin/hdparm -i /dev/sda | grep -i write Linux calls DWC as WCE (write cache enabled): DWC is enabled => WCE is enabled DWC is disabled => WCE is 0 IDE Detect Time Out(Sec) This value is the best setting to use if the onboard IDE controllers are set to a specific IDE disk drive in the BIOS. 0 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 5 seconds. 5 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 10 seconds. 10 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 15 seconds. 15 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 20 seconds. 20 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 25 seconds. 25 Set this value to stop the setup from searching the IDE bus for IDE disk drives in 30 seconds. 30 35 is the default value. It is the recommended setting when all IDE connectors are set to auto in the setup setting. 35 13
