F_Port trunking prevents reassignments of the Port ID when F_Ports go offline and it increases F_Port bandwidth. This feature supports the HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 4/32, 4/32B, 4/64 SAN Switch, 8/8 SAN Switch, 8/24 SAN Switch, 8/40 SAN Switch, 8/80 SAN Switch, 4/256 SAN Director and the DC Director enterprise-class platforms running Fabric OS 6.1.x. F_Port masterless trunking interoperates between Access Gateway (AG), 2 Gbps, 4 Gbps, and 8 Gbps-based platforms. This feature does not work on M-EOS or third party switches. Figure 39 shows a switch in AG mode without F_Port masterless trunking. Figure 40 shows a switch in AG mode with F_Port masterless trunking. Figure 39 Switch in Access Gateway mode without F_Port trunking Figure 40 Switch in Access Gateway mode with F_Port masterless trunking NOTE: You do not need to manually map the host to the master port because Access Gateway will perform a cold failover to the master port. To implement F_Port masterless trunking, you must first configure an F_Port trunk group and statically assign an Area_ID within the trunk group. Assigning a Trunk Area (TA) to a port or trunk group enables F_Port masterless trunking on that port or trunk group. When a TA is assigned to a port or trunk group, the ports immediately acquire the TA as the area of its PID. When a TA is removed from a port or trunk group, the ports will revert to the default area as its PID. 366 Administering ISL Trunking
