Replacing a Processor

Upgrading and Replacing PC Hardware Replacing a Processor WARNING For your safety, disconnect the power cord and all external cables. 1 Switch off the PC, disconnect the power cord and remove the PC's side panel (refer to "Removing and Replacing the Side Panel" on page 12). 2 Lay the PC on its side for easy access to the processor. 3 Remove the 2 retaining clips from the heatsink and disconnect the processor fan cable. processor fan cable/connector retaining clips NOTE 4 Lift the heatsink clear of the processor. 5 Raise the lever to the side of the socket to release the old processor. 6 Install the new processor in the socket, with its corner marker facing the corner marker on the socket, then lower the lever to lock it in place. If reinstalling the old heatsink, ensure that you completely remove the old thermal interface material from the bottom of the heatsink. This can be done using your thumbnail. Once the heatsink is clean, install the new thermal interface provided with the new processor. 7 If you have installed the processor in a new system board, you must remove the heatsink cradle from the old board and fit it to the new one (this has to be done in each case with the system board out of the PC). retaining bracket - goes under the system board attach with the four blue screws 8 Place the heatsink on top of the processor, making sure it is the correct way round (allowing the processor fan cable to reach the connector on the system board). 9 Secure the heatsink with the retaining clips, taking care not to damage any components on the system board. 10 Reconnect the processor fan cable. 11 Replace the PC's side panel (refer to "Removing and Replacing the Side Panel" on page 12) and reconnect the power cord. 16

Replacing a Processor
WARNING
For your safety, disconnect the power cord and all external cables.

Switch off the PC, disconnect the power cord and remove the PC’s side panel (refer to “Removing and
Replacing the Side Panel” on page 12).

Lay the PC on its side for easy access to the processor.

Remove the 2 retaining clips from the heatsink and disconnect the processor fan cable

Lift the heatsink clear of the processor.

Raise the lever to the side of the socket to release the old processor.

Install the new processor in the socket, with its corner marker facing the corner marker on the socket,
then lower the lever to lock it in place.
NOTE
