2 Technical Reference Main Memory NOTE 128-bit Memory Main Memory The main memory in your PC consists of Double Interline Memory Modules (DIMMs). 32 MB or 64 MB are fitted as standard (depending on the model you ordered). The main memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 512 MB. Memory modules are available in three capacities: 16 MB, 32 MB and 64 MB. The maximum memory capacity (512 MB) is obtained by installing eight 64 MB DIMM modules. The DIMM modules used by your HP Vectra XU PC use a 5 volt power source. DIMM modules that use a 3.3 volt power source are not supported and must not be installed. Each DIMM module stores 64 bits of data plus 8-bits of Error Correcting Code (ECC) code. Access to the memory modules is controlled by a memory controller on the processor's local bus. This controller manages the modules in pairs to create single, 128-bit wide logical banks. 128-bits Memory controller Memory bank 1 Memory bank 2 Memory bank 3 Memory bank 4 DIMM memory modules Processor's local bus (64-bits) 58 English
