By using these products you can further address the spam problem. Anti-spam server and gateway products aim to prevent spam messages ever entering the company's e-mail system. Often the vendors of these products offer content filtering, connection management, and other related functionality as a service. Some vendors also provide products and services that prevent directory harvesting and denial of service attacks, as well as virus protection. 6.2.1 BrightMail Anti-Spam 4.0 from BrightMail, Inc. BrightMail Anti-Spam 4.0 provides options for Internet Service Providers and enterprises that wish to install an on-premises server to handle local inbound scanning for viruses and spam mail. BrightMail hosts dummy e-mail accounts throughout the world that receive spam messages. Suspected spam messages are analyzed for content by BrightMail's Logistics and Operations Center (BLOC); if they are determined to be spam, they are added to BrightMail's anti-spam database. The Anti-spam Enterprise on-premise server functions as a client in a client-server environment with the on-premise server installed at your site acting as client to the BLOC. The BLOC provides updates to your on-premise server, downloading the anti-spam database on a scheduled basis. BrightMail's on-premise product acts as a "gateway" product, meaning that it operates in front of your Lotus Domino servers.
