BASIC OPERATION 2 ■■Directly setting the frequency You can also directly set the desired frequency. qqHold down [ ] for two seconds to enter the direct frequen- cy setting mode. • Only the active frequency is displayed. wwSet an operating frequency. • Rotate [O-DIAL] to set above 1 MHz 121.80 digit. • Rotate [DIAL] to set below 100 kHz digit. • You can set the frequency step in the Settings menu. (p. 21) eeWhen receiving a signal, "RX" is RX displayed and audio is heard. 121.80 • Rotate [VOL] to adjust the audio level. • Adjust the squelch if necessary. Refer to 'Squelch settings' for details. rrHold down PTT switch, and then TX speak at your normal voice level. 121.80 • "TX" is displayed. • DO NOT hold the microphone too closely to your mouth or speak too loudly. DDSwitching the squelch mode You can switch the squelch mode when the Auto squelch "AUTO SQL" item in the Configuration menu (p. 22) is set to "USER SET." qqPush [VOL] to turn ON the squelch test function. • "RX" and " TEST" are displayed. RX MEMORY 122.00 127.005 TESTMN • The squelch mode readout "MN" or "AU" blinks. wwPush [VOL] again while the squelch MEMORY mode readout is blinking to switch the 122.00 127.005 AU squelch mode. • "RX" and " TEST" disappear and the squelch test function is turned OFF. • MN (manual): Uses the squelch level set in "SQL LEVEL." • AU (auto): Prevents the audio from breaking up while receiv- ing weak signals. eeRepeat q through w to switch the squelch mode again. 6
