Performing an iBMC Force Update When performing a standard iBMC firmware update procedure, the update utility places the iBMC into an update mode, allowing the firmware to load safely onto the flash device. In the unlikely event that the iBMC firmware update process fails because the iBMC not in the proper update state, the server board provides a BMC Force Update jumper (J3A1) that will force the iBMC into the proper update state. The following procedure should be following if the standard iBMC firmware update process fails. 1. Power down the system and disconnect the AC power. 2. Open the server. 3. Performing an iBMC Force Update
When performing a standard iBMC firmware update procedure, the update utility places
the iBMC into an update mode, allowing the firmware to load safely onto the flash device.
In the unlikely event that the iBMC firmware update process fails because the iBMC not
in the proper update state, the server board provides a BMC Force Update jumper (J3A1)
that will force the iBMC into the proper update state. The following procedure should be
following if the standard iBMC firmware update process fails.
1.
Power down the system and disconnect the AC power.
2.
Open the server.
3.
Move the J3A1 iBMC Force Update jumper from the default position, covering
pins 1 and 2 to the Write Enable position, covering pins 2 and 3 as indicated in the
following diagram.
