Chapter 2 Hardware Installation This chapter describes the procedures for installing the Intel RAID Controller SRCZCRX. It contains the following sections: • Section 2.1, "Requirements," page 18 • Section 2.2, "Quick Installation," page 18 • Section 2.3, "Detailed Installation," page 19 • Section 2.4, "After You Have Installed the Storage Adapter," page 22 2.1 Requirements The following items are required to install the RAID controller: • An Intel RAID Controller SRCZCRX • A host computer with the following: - Server board with interrupt routing circuitry (INT) routing - 64-bit, MROMB-enabled PCI expansion slot Note: Refer to the Tested Hardware and Operating System List to see which server boards are supported. • The Resource CD Intel strongly recommends using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). 2.2 Quick Installation The following steps are for for experienced computer users/installers. Section 2.3, "Detailed Installation", contains detailed steps. Note: All work must be performed at an ESD-safe workstation that meets the requirements of EIA-625: Requirements for Handling Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive Devices. All actions must be done following the latest revision of the IPC-A-610 for ESD recommended practices. 1) (Optional, required to enable Write Back Cache) Attach the Battery Backup Unit to the RAID adapter. 2) (Optional, required for some chassis) Replace the bracket on the RAID adapter with the low-profile bracket. 3) Power off the server and all hard disk drives, enclosures, and system components. Remove the power cord from the server. 4) Follow the instructions in the host system documentation to open the cabinet of the host system. 5) Check the jumper settings on the RAID adapter.
