Keep Warm WARNING Food Poisoning Hazard Do not let food sit for more than one hour before or after cooking. Doing so can result in food poisoning or sickness. The Keep Warm function is available on all the surface cooking elements, has three settings and is ideal for keeping cooked foods warm. The lowest setting is for delicate sauces,the medium setting is for soups, and the highest setting is for soups and meats. Do not use it to heat cold foods. One hour is the recommended maximum time to maintain food quality. ■ Use only cookware recommended for oven and cooktop use. ■ Cover all foods with a lid or aluminum foil. When warming baked goods, allow a small opening in the cover for moisture to escape. ■ Do not use plastic wrap to cover food. Plastic wrap may melt. ■ Use pot holders or oven mitts to remove food. To Use: 1. Touch ON or ON/BURNER SIZE. 2. Touch the "+" pad twice for KEEP WARM at the Low setting, three times for Medium, and four times for High. When finished cooking, touch OFF to turn surface cooking area off. Simmer The Simmer function is available on all the surface cooking elements. It has an adjustable heat setting for more precise simmer control. Three levels of simmer are available. The recommended setting will vary depending on the quantity and density of the food being cooked as well as the size and shape of the cookware and if a lid is being used during cooking. To Use: 1. Touch ON or ON/BURNER SIZE. 2. When using the triple element, select the zone diameter by touching the ON/BURNER SIZE pad until the desired zone diameter indicator light is glowing. 3. Touch the "+" pad seven times for SIMMER at the Low setting, eight times for SIMMER at the Medium setting, and nine times for SIMMER at the High setting. When finished cooking, touch OFF to turn surface cooking area off. Use the following chart as a guide when setting heat levels. SETTING RECOMMENDED USE SIMMER HIGH SIMMER MEDIUM SIMMER LOW ■ Water-based foods such as chicken noodle soup. ■ Medium-density foods such as cream soups, sauces and gravy. ■ Any foods ■ Cooking with a lid. Cooktop Controls - Standard Knobs WARNING Fire Hazard Turn off all controls when done cooking. Failure to do so can result in death or fire. The cooktop controls can be set to anywhere between HI and LO. Push in and turn to the desired heat setting. Use the following chart as a guide when setting heat levels. SETTING RECOMMENDED USE HI ■ Bring liquid to a boil. MED- HI ■ Hold a rapid boil. ■ Quickly brown or sear food. MED ■ Maintain a slow boil. ■ Fry poultry or meat. ■ Cook pudding, sauce, icing or gravy. MED- LO ■ Stew or steam food. ■ Simmer. LO ■ Keep food warm. ■ Melt chocolate or butter. REMEMBER: When range is in use or (on some models) during the Self-Cleaning cycle, the entire cooktop area may become hot. 7
