White edges or "halos" can be caused by factors like incorrect registration, physical properties of toners and stiffness of the media. Auto Trapping provides users with a setting to eliminate halos and other "artifacts" when overlaying images in applications such as Adobe® Photoshop® or Quark®. Benefits from Auto Trapping include the color rendition accuracy in the printed document and cost reduction regarding print redundancies when creating and printing original documents. This feature is supported on the Xerox C6500/5400 product and also by Fiery but it is not supported by Canon or Ricoh. Note that the Auto Trap Function needs to be turned on in the Utility Mode Settings of the bizhub C652 or bizhub C552. The following procedures describe how to specify the necessary settings in the print driver to output documents using Auto Trapping. Incorrect Registration When data has been prepared on a color-by-color basis, if the borders between colors are out of alignment, there is a possibility that nothing will actually be printed and that some areas will be left white after four-color printing. In Auto Trapping mode, areas that remain white are printed with an optimal color created from surrounding colors. As a result the areas in question are not rendered in white. OVERVIEW SUMMARY APPLICATION
Trapping is a technique where some objects are printed slightly larger to prevent white
edges around these objects. White edges or “halos” can be caused by factors like
incorrect registration, physical properties of toners and stiffness of the media. Auto
Trapping provides users with a setting to eliminate halos and other “artifacts” when
overlaying images in applications such as Adobe
®
Photoshop
®
or Quark
®
. Benefits from
Auto Trapping include the color rendition accuracy in the printed document and cost
reduction regarding print redundancies when creating and printing original documents.
This feature is supported on the Xerox C6500/5400 product and also by Fiery but it is not
supported by Canon or Ricoh.
Note that the Auto Trap Function needs to be turned
on in the Utility Mode Settings of the bizhub C652 or bizhub C552. The following
procedures describe how to specify the necessary settings in the print driver to output
documents using Auto Trapping.
APPLICATION
Your customer uses Adobe
®
Photoshop
®
to create originals containing text and/or
graphics. Your customer uses these originals for their advertising in trade magazines,
flyers, and other marketing materials. They are experiencing difficulty when overlaying
a graphic on to another graphic image. The effect they see is a white area halo, visible
to the eye, around the edges of the document. They do not want to enlarge the original
image when overlapping because the need for accuracy regarding their documentation
is critical for the organization.
When data has been prepared
on a color-by-color basis, if the
borders between colors are out
of alignment, there is a possibility
that nothing will actually be
printed and that some areas will
be left white after four-color
printing. In Auto Trapping mode,
areas that remain white are
printed with an optimal color
created from surrounding colors.
As a result the areas in question
are not rendered in white.
