Installing a GBIC ► To install a GBIC that has clips, follow these steps: 1 Remove the GBIC from its protective packaging. 2 Ensure the GBIC is the correct model for your network. 3 Grip the sides of the GBIC with your thumb and forefinger and insert the GBIC into the module socket. GBICs are generally keyed to prevent incorrect insertion. Figure 5: Inserting a GBIC into a GBIC slot on the sensor 4 Slide the GBIC through the flap covering the socket opening until you hear a click indicating the GBIC is locked into the slot. 5 GBICs generally have a protective plug in the optical bore. When you are ready to attach the network interface cable, remove the plug from the GBIC optical bore and save the plug for future use. 16

Installing GBICs
