Note: You can also dial an emergency call by pressing and holding 9 until the phone indicates it is attempting to make an emergency call. However, this method does not work when Keyguard is active or when the phone is connected to a modem. Activating Emergency key 9 Press Menu 4 1 1 (Settings - Call settings - Emergency key 9), scroll to On to activate or Off to cancel, then press OK. IMPORTANT! Official emergency numbers vary by location (e.g. 911). Only one emergency number is programmed into your phone to be dialed automatically by Emergency key 9, which may not be the proper number in all circumstances. Entering letters and numbers You can enter letters, as well as numbers, when storing information into your phone by using your phone's keypad. When you see the letter you wish to enter, simply press the key associated with that letter until it appears on the display (numbers also appear). ABC mode When you need to enter letters into your phone, it will automatically switch over to mode. Your phone displays the icon to indicate that your phone is in ABC mode. It also displays when you are viewing names rather than numbers. When is displayed, you can enter these characters (see next page): 35
