English Troubleshooting WARNING Under no circumstances should you try to repair the unit yourself as this will invalidate the guarantee. Do not open the unit as there is a risk of electric shock. If a fault occurs, first check the points listed before taking the unit for repair. If you are unable to solve a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or service center. Laser safety This unit employs a laser. Only a qualified service person should remove the cover or attempt to service this device, due to possible eye injury. Problem No power, no sound No reaction to controls Automatic start of permanent feature display (demonstration mode) Poor radio reception Poor bass sound Remote control does not function properly Insert Disc indication Wrong Disc indication, Use Audio CD indication Check Input indication Does not record Stops during recording Recorded disc does not play in another standard CD player Missing directories on MP3-CD Recorded tracks have been merged together or tracks do not start/stop at the correct time Solution - Adjust the volume. - Disconnect headphones. - Make sure speakers are connected properly. - Connect power cable properly. - Disconnect the unit from power supply, reconnect after a few seconds. - Keep Ç on the unit pressed for at least 5 seconds to cancel the demonstration mode. - Direct the antenna for optimum reception. - Do not position the antenna near a radiation source such as a TV,VCR, computer, etc. Change the position of the interfering unit or try to switch it off. - Connect the colored (or marked) wires to the colored terminals and the black (or unmarked) wires to the black terminals. - Insert new batteries and/or insert batteries correctly. - Select the desired source key before selecting the function key. - Reduce distance to the unit. - Make sure the disc is not scratched or dirty. Replace or clean the disc. - Make sure disc is inserted with the label facing up. - Wait until steamed up laser lens has cleared. - Check if a digital audio disc is inserted, marked with "Digital Audio" and the special logo. - Check if the connection cable is connected properly. - Make sure the CDR(W) is absolutely free of scratches and dust particles. - Check if a digital audio CDR(W) is inserted and make sure it is unfinalized. - Use Philips audio CDR(W)s. - In case recording process is interrupted (power loss, mechanical shock), start recording again with a new disc. - Make sure the CDR(W) is finalized. - Insert the CDRW in a CDRW compatible CD player. - Only albums with playable files will be shown. - Use another track increment mode. - Insert track increments manually with the remote control. 28
