SET UP Basic Playback Playing Source with Stereo Sound The following instructions show you how to play audio or audio-visual sources with the VSX-29TX. memo If the TAPE 2 indicator is visible in the display, it means the TAPE 2 MONITOR is on. Press TAPE 2 MONITOR on the front panel to turn it off unless you want to listen to TAPE 2. 4 RECEIVER DVD/LD TV/SAT VCR1 VCR2 REMOTE SETUP MD/TAPE1 CD TUNER TV CONTROL on off BACK LIGHT TV CONTROL FUNCTION CH + CH - VOL + VOL - FUNCTION 3 1 Turn on the power of the playback component. 2 Press the STANDBY/ON button to turn on the receiver. Be sure that the standby indicator turns off on the front panel. STANDBY indicator STANDBY/ON MULTI SYSTEM OPERATION OFF MUTING MASTER VOLUME + ENTER - 2 3 Press the FUNCTION button to select the source you want to playback. The FUNCTION button cycles through the sources in the following order: Receiver RECEIVER MAIN SUB REMOTE SETUP DVD/LD DSP STEREO MD/TAPE1 / dts EFFECT TV/SAT THX ADVANCED THEATER STANDARD CD VCR1 MIDNIGHT DIRECT VCR2 DIGITAL NR LOUDNESS SIGNAL SELECT TUNER TV CONTROL on off BACK LIGHT TV CONTROL FUNCTION CH + CH - VOL + VOL - FUNCTION ENTER STANDBY/ON MULTI SYSTEM OPERATION OFF MUTING MASTER VOLUME + - 5 7 DVD/LD TV/SAT CD MD/TAPE 1 TUNER VCR 1 VCR 2 VIDEO PHONO 4 Press the RECEIVER. The RECEIVER MAIN SCREEN appears on the remote. 5 Press SIGNAL SELECT on the remote control or SIGNAL SELECT on the front panel to select the input signal corresponding to the source component (setting the switch to AUTO assures the proper signal will be selected). (See "Switching ANALOG/DIGITAL signal input" on p.38.) 6 Start playback of the component you selected in step 1. 7 Adjust the volume by using the volume buttons 2 37 on the remote control or the MASTER VOLUME on the front panel. Return to the RECEIVER screens (by pressing to RECEIVER button and SUB, if needed) to make other sound adjustments like bass/treble, loudness etc. 5 (SIGNAL SELECT) memo If you are not able to get sound from the receiver the problem may well lie with the SIGNAL SELECT switch. You need to make sure the input is set to the appropriate ANALOG or DIGITAL setting. Refer to page 38 for more on this. OPERATION 33

Basic Playback
Playing Source with Stereo Sound
The following instructions show you how to play audio or audio-visual sources with the VSX-29TX.
If the TAPE 2 indicator is visible in the display, it means the TAPE 2 MONITOR is on. Press TAPE 2 MONITOR
on the front panel to turn it off unless you want to listen to TAPE 2.

Turn on the power of the playback component.

Press the
STANDBY/ON button to
turn on the receiver.
Be sure that the standby indicator turns off on
the front panel.

Press the FUNCTION button to select the source
you want to playback.
The FUNCTION button cycles through the sources in the
following order:

Press the RECEIVER.
The RECEIVER MAIN SCREEN appears on the
remote.

Press SIGNAL SELECT on the remote control or
SIGNAL SELECT on the front panel to select the
input signal corresponding to the source
component (setting the switch to AUTO assures
the proper signal will be selected).

Start playback of the component you selected in
step 1.

Adjust the volume by using the volume buttons
on the remote control or the MASTER VOLUME
on the front panel.
Return to the RECEIVER screens
(by pressing to RECEIVER
button and SUB, if needed) to make other sound
adjustments like bass/treble, loudness etc.

If you are not able to get sound from the receiver the
problem may well lie with the SIGNAL SELECT switch.
You need to make sure the input is set to the
appropriate ANALOG or DIGITAL setting. Refer to page
38 for more on this.
