SET UP Basic Playback Playing Source with Dolby Digital or DTS Sound The following instructions show you how to play Dolby Digital or DTS sound sources with the VSX-29TX. 1 RECEIVER DVD/LD TV/SAT VCR1 VCR2 REMOTE SETUP MD/TAPE1 CD TUNER TV CONTROL on off BACK LIGHT TV CONTROL FUNCTION CH + CH - VOL + VOL - FUNCTION 2 1 Turn on the receiver and press the RECEIVER button on the remote control. The RECEIVER MAIN SCREEN appears on the remote. 2 Press the FUNCTION button of the component STANDBY/ON MULTI SYSTEM OPERATION OFF MUTING MASTER VOLUME + (DVD/LD, etc.) you want to listen/to watch. ENTER - 3 Choose a Surround/dts mode by pressing THX, ADVANCED THEATER or STANDARD. (For more see "Sound Modes," p. 34-36.) 4 Press SIGNAL SELECT on the remote control or 3 Receiver RECEIVER MAIN SUB REMOTE SETUP DVD/LD DSP STEREO MD/TAPE1 / dts EFFECT TV/SAT THX ADVANCED THEATER STANDARD CD VCR1 MIDNIGHT DIRECT VCR2 DIGITAL NR LOUDNESS SIGNAL SELECT TUNER TV CONTROL on off BACK LIGHT TV CONTROL FUNCTION CH + CH - VOL + VOL - FUNCTION 4 SIGNAL SELECT on the front panel to select the input signal corresponding to the source component (setting the switch to AUTO assures the proper signal will be selected). (See "Switching ANALOG/DIGITAL signal input" on p. 38.) ENTER STANDBY/ON MULTI SYSTEM OPERATION OFF MUTING MASTER VOLUME + 6 5 Play a source (for example, a DVD player). - 6 Adjust the volume by using the volume buttons on the remote control or the MASTER VOLUME on the front panel. Return to the RECEIVER screens (by pressing to RECEIVER button and SUB, if needed) to make other sound adjustments like bass/treble, loudness etc. 13 26 memo • We recommend using different modes for different types of DTS material. For watching movies, the THX or ADVANCED THEATER setting should provide the best results. For listening to music, the STANDARD, DIRECT, STEREO, or DSP modes should serve the listener best. • Make sure you connect your DVD/LD or LD players using the AC-3 RF jack. Playing Source with Dolby Digital or DTS Sound
The following instructions show you how to play Dolby Digital or DTS sound sources with the VSX-29TX.

Turn on the receiver and press the RECEIVER
button on the remote control.
The RECEIVER MAIN SCREEN appears on the remote.

Press the FUNCTION button of the component
(DVD/LD, etc.) you want to listen/to watch.

Choose a
Surround/dts mode by pressing
THX, ADVANCED THEATER or STANDARD.

Press SIGNAL SELECT on the remote control or
SIGNAL SELECT on the front panel to select the
input signal corresponding to the source
component (setting the switch to AUTO assures
the proper signal will be selected).

Play a source (for example, a DVD player).

Adjust the volume by using the volume buttons
on the remote control or the MASTER VOLUME
