OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS It is recommended that the engine not be operated for longer than 30 seconds at full throttle. Releasing the trigger and allowing the engine to briefly return to idle speed (5 - 10 seconds) will be sufficient. IMPORTANT POINTS • Use the minimum throttle speed necessary to effectively cut hedges for optimal hedge trimmer performance. OPERATING POSITION 2 FULL CHOKE NO CHOKE Throttle Control Positions FULL CHOKE NO CHOKE 1. Move the choke control (3) to the FULL CHOKE position. 2. Slowly press the primer bulb (2) 10 times. 3. Squeeze the throttle trigger (5), press the fast idle button (6), and release the throttle trigger so the fast idle button stays engaged. 4. Pull the starter rope handle sharply 5 times or until the engine starts. 5. Allow the engine to run 5 seconds. 6. Move the choke control to the NO CHOKE position. 7. If the engine is not currently running or has stalled, pull starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs. 8. Allow the engine to run 15 seconds. STARTING A WARM ENGINE 1. Move the choke control to the NO CHOKE position. 2. Pull starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs. NOTE: If engine still does not run, it is probably flooded. Proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE. STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE Flooded engines can be started by placing the ON/ OFF switch in the ON position and the choke lever in the NO CHOKE position; then, pull the rope to clear the HANDLE LEVER The handle lever can be used to rotate the rear handle to allow operation of the unit at a 45° and 90° position. 1. Allow engine to return to idle speed. 2. Pull handle lever and rotate rear handle to desired position. 3. Release handle lever. Throttle Control Positions
FULL CHOKE

1.
Move the choke control (3) to the FULL CHOKE
position.
2.
Slowly press the primer bulb (2) 10 times.
3.
Squeeze the throttle trigger (5), press the fast idle
button (6), and release the throttle trigger so the fast
idle button stays engaged.
4.
Pull the starter rope handle sharply 5 times or until the
engine starts.

Allow the engine to run 5 seconds.
6.
Move the choke control to the NO CHOKE position.
7.
If the engine is not currently running or has stalled, pull
starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs.
8.
Allow the engine to run 15 seconds.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE

Move the choke control to the NO CHOKE position.
2.
Pull starter rope handle sharply until the engine runs.
NOTE: If engine still does not run, it is probably
flooded. Proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE.
STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE
Flooded engines can be started by placing the ON/
OFF switch in the ON position and the choke lever in
the NO CHOKE position; then, pull the rope to clear the
engine of excess fuel. Starting could require pulling the
starter rope many times depending on how badly the
unit is flooded. If the unit still doesn’t start, refer to the
TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call 1-800-487-5951.
