Installing the water heater: Installation Check List A. Indoor Water Heater Location K Close to area of vent termination. K Indoors and protected from freezing temperatures. K Proper clearance from combustible surfaces observed. K Sufficient fresh air supply for proper operation of water heater. K Air supply free of corrosive elements and flammable vapors. K Provisions made to protect area from water damage. K Sufficient room to service heater. K Combustible materials, such as clothing, cleaning materials, rags, etc. clear of the heater and vent piping. K Water heater is properly attached to the wall. B. Water Supply K Water supply has sufficient pressure. K Air purged from water heater and piping. K Water connections tight and free of leaks. K Water filter is clean and in place. K Materials used are as instructed in this manual. K Water pipes are insulated and protected from freezing. C. Gas Supply K Gas type matches rating plate. K Gas supply pressure is sufficient for the water heater. K Gas line equipped with shut-­off valve, union and sediment trap. K Approved pipe joint compound used. K Soap and water solution used to check all connections and fittings for possible gas leak. K Gas Company inspected installation (if required). D. Relief Valve K Pressure Relief Valve properly installed and discharge line run to open drain. K Discharge line protected from freezing. E. Venting K Vent pipe material should be category III and meet water heater manufacturer's requirements. K Connector(s) pitched (1/4" per foot of length minimum) DOWNWARD or UPWARD to termination. See pages 13 and 14. K Connector(s) securely fastened together with high temperature silicone (500°F [260°C]) and air-­tight. K All vent runs are properly supported. K Vent terminal is properly installed. K Sufficient combustion air is available. K Maximum and minimum vent lengths are observed. F. Electrical Wiring K Voltage matches rating plate. Installing the water heater:

materials, rags, etc. clear of the heater and
vent piping.
Water heater is properly attached to the wall.
B. Water Supply
Water supply has sufficient pressure.
Air purged from water heater and piping.
Water connections tight and free of leaks.
Water filter is clean and in place.
Materials used are as instructed in this manual.
Water pipes are insulated and protected from
freezing.

Gas Supply
Gas type matches rating plate.
Gas supply pressure is sufficient for the water heater.
Gas line equipped with shut°off valve, union and
sediment trap.
Approved pipe joint compound used.
Soap and water solution used to check all connections
and fittings for possible gas leak.
Gas Company inspected installation (if required).
D.
Relief Valve
Pressure Relief Valve properly installed and discharge
line run to open drain.
Discharge line protected from freezing.
E. Venting
Vent pipe material should be category III and meet
water heater manufacturer's requirements.
Connector(s) pitched (1/4” per foot of length
minimum) DOWNWARD or UPWARD to
termination. See pages 13 and 14.
Connector(s) securely fastened together with high
temperature silicone (500±F [
260±C])
and
air°tight.
All vent runs are properly supported.
Vent terminal is properly installed.
