Page 16 highlights

You can use the numbers stored in these registers just like you have used the numbers stored in the M register (explained starting on page 14) in your calculations, except no register arithmetic key like the ri key is available. MATH CTI•N 12 Seven math functions are available on the EL-733A and the use of these functions is fairly straightforward. These seven functions are available in all three calculating modes. All of the functions except for E operate instantaneously on the number showing in the display. With E , you need to key in one number (y), press E , key in another number (x), and press S . Some examples of using these math functions follow. To get the exact results that we show, your calculator must be in NORMAL mode with the display set to RR P3 W . Example: Calculate 1/9, 1/7, and 1/12. Solution: 9 Q 7 gi 12 M Result: 0.11 Result: 0.14 Result: 0.08 Example: What is the square root of 289? Solution: 289 Result: 17.00 Example: What is 25 (two to the fifth power)? Solution: 2 E 5 E Result: 32.00 Example: What is the cube root of 755? Solution: The key to solving this type of problem (a root other than the square root) is to know that the nth root of a number is equal to that number raised to the 1/n power. In this case, you need to raise 755 to the 1/3 power in order to calculate the cube (or third) root. 755 (J 3 Eg 0 Result 9.11 To verify this result, you can raise it back to the third power by pressing E 3 E This will give you 755.00. Example: What is 2752 (275 squared)? Solution: 275 [2ndF1[2) Result: 76625.00 Example: What is 6! (six factorial =1x2x3x4x5x 6) Solution: 6 Pull E Result: 720.00 Example: What is e0.226? Solution: 0.226 I2ndl Result: 1.25 Example: What is the natural log of 422? Solution: 422 PncIF] E Result: 6.05
