BASICS THREE- OR FOUR-WAY CONFERENCING The FT-7257 provides for three- or four-way conference calling by using both lines with either the handset, the base unit or both. For 3-way conferencing leave the handset in the base unit cradle and use the base unit's speaker. For 4-way conferencing remove the handset from the base unit cradle and have a different person use each unit. 1Either the handset or the base unit (but not both) may be used to initiate conference calling. If the handset is used, press the (TALK) button to connect to LINE I . If the base unit is used, press the (_SPEAKER) button. 2 Using the same unit as in step I dial the number of one of the parties to the conference call and, after establishing contact, press the (HOLD) button. 3 On the same unit, press the (LINE 2) button and dial the number for the second party. 4 After establishing contact with that party and still using the same unit as in the preceding steps, press the (CONF) button to initiate the conferencing process. 5 To end the 4-way conversation and go to • a 3-way conversation between the base unit and line I/line 2, return the handset to its cradle on the base unit. • a 2-way conversation between the base unit and either line, return the handset to its cradle on the base unit and press the LINE button for the line with which you wish to continue the conversation.The other line will hang up. • standby mode, return the handset to its cradle on the base unit and press the (SPEAKER) button on the base unit. NOTES: • The keypads and line buttons on both units are disabled during 4-way conferencing. • Your voice through the base unit may not be heard sometimes by the attending parties in a 4-way conferencing. 39
