Modem Selection If the computer cannot recognize the internal modem, a dialog box is displayed from which you should select the appropriate communications port for your modem to use. Dialing Properties You should select this item in order to display the dialing properties. If you are using the computer in Japan, the Telecommunications Business Law requires that you select Japan region mode. It is illegal to use the modem in Japan with any other selection. Connecting the modular cable To connect the modem's modular cable, follow the steps as detailed below: ■ Connection to any communication line other than an analog phone line could cause a computer system failure. ■ Connect the built-in modem only to ordinary analog phone lines. ■ Never connect the built-in modem to a digital line (ISDN). ■ Never connect the built-in modem to the digital connector on a public telephone or to a digital private branch exchange (PBX). ■ Never connect the built-in modem to a key telephone system for residences or offices. ■ Avoid using your computer modem with the telephone cable connected during an electrical storm.
