Supplies This lesson describes the printer supplies, which include the ink sticks and Maintenance Kits. Supplies for Phaser 8400 printers are not interchangeable with Phaser 8500 and 8550 supplies. Ink Stick Ink sticks are the only consumable while Maintenance Kits are routine maintenance items. An exercise for troubleshooting problems with printer supplies is included. 12 34 Maintenance Kit Ink Sticks Genuine Xerox Solid Ink 8400 ink sticks are shaped-coded to fit only the Phaser 8400 ink loader. Genuine Xerox Solid Ink 8500/8550 is compatible only with the Phaser 8500 and 8550 printers. Each color is clearly marked with a number that corresponds to the correct ink-loading bin. Ink sticks shipped with the printers currently do not have the Xerox logo as shown above. Do not mistake Xerox ink without the Xerox logo for non-Xerox ink (NXI). Life Expectancy The life expectancy of each ink stick depends on the percentage of coverage per page. At 5% coverage per color, the life expectancy is approximately 1,100 pages per Phaser 8400 ink stick. Each Phaser 8500/8550 ink stick has a life expectancy of approximately 1000 pages at 5% average coverage. Optimizing Ink Usage Customers can observe the following practices to optimize ink usage: ■ Use Fast Color or Standard Print-Quality modes ■ Print low coverage, text-only documents ■ Avoid unnecessary Printhead cleaning cycles: ■ Leave the power turned on ■ Keep the covers and doors closed To conserve ink, the printer does not perform a Printhead cleaning cycle after it exits standby mode. The printer may automatically clean its Printhead if allowed to cool by leaving doors or covers open or by turning off the power switch. PHASER 8550, 8500, & 8400 CARE SECTION Version 1.0 page 49
