Torque Lock Theparkingbrakeshouldbesetfirstwheneverleavingthedriver'sseat. If youareparkedonahillandthetransmissionisplacedin P (Park)before theparkingbrakeisset,theweightofthevehiclemayputtoomuchforce ontheparkingpawl in thetransmission.Itmaybedifficulttopulltheselector leverout of P (Park).Thisiscalled"torquelock." To preventthis,theparking brakeshouldbeset BEFORE movingtheselectorleverto P (Park). Whenpreparingtomovethevehicle,theselectorlevershouldbemovedout of P (Park) BEFORE releasingtheparkingbrake.Settheparkingbrakefirst, thenreleasethetransmissionfrom P (Park),evenonlevelsurfaces. If "torquelock"doesoccur,youmayhavetohaveanothervehiclenudge yourvehicleuphill a little to takesomeofthepressure off thetransmission whileyoupulltheselectorleverout of P (Park). It canbedangerous to getoutofyourvehicle if theshiftlever fullyin P (Park)withtheparkingbrakefirmlyset.Yourvehiclecan roll. is not If youhavelefttheenginerunning,thevehiclecanmovesuddenly.
