Assigning Hot Spare drive A hot spare is a hard disk drive that automatically replaces any failed drive in a RAID volume, and can subsequently be used to rebuild the RAID volume. 1 Select Array Configuration Utility option. 2 Select Add/Delete Hotspare. 3 The screen displays Select drives to assign Spare. 4 Select desired hard drive disk and then press to add it in Assigned Hotspare drives area. 5 Press to complete the selection. 6 Press Y when prompted by "Do you want to create a spare? (Yes/ No):" displayed. 7 Now a hot spare drive is created, you can press to exit.
