Installation and Configuration 5-21 Setting up and Configuring an MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem Designating a Server as a Maintenance Terminal To set up and configure an MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem in a PDC/O5000, you must connect a cluster server (node) to an HSG80 Array Controller in that storage subsystem through the controller's maintenance port. This provides a maintenance terminal from which to configure the storage subsystem. You must also connect the second array controller to the server through its maintenance port so you can configure it for I/O path failover. NOTE: Only one server in the cluster should be designated as the maintenance server. To connect the maintenance server to both array controllers in the storage subsystem: 1. Connect the RJ12 connector on a communications cable to the maintenance port on an array controller. 2. Connect the 9-pin serial connector on the communications cable to either the COM1 or COM2 port on the server. 3. Connect the RJ12 connector on a second communications cable to the maintenance port on the second array controller. 4. Connect the 9-pin serial connector on the communications cable to the unused COM port on the server. NOTE: Be careful to note which serial port is connected to which array controller. You will need this information when setting up the communications program and configuring the controller. Powering On the MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem To power on a storage subsystem: 1. Power on one of the Fibre Channel SAN Switches or Storage Hubs that are connected by Fibre Channel cables to the storage subsystem. IMPORTANT: Do not power on the other Fibre Channel SAN Switches or Storage Hubs until after installing the Secure Path software.

Installation and Configuration
5-21
Setting up and Configuring an
MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem
Designating a Server as a Maintenance Terminal
To set up and configure an MA8000/EMA12000 Storage Subsystem in a
PDC/O5000, you must connect a cluster server (node) to an HSG80 Array
Controller in that storage subsystem through the controller
s maintenance port.
This provides a maintenance terminal from which to configure the storage
subsystem. You must also connect the second array controller to the server
through its maintenance port so you can configure it for I/O path failover.
NOTE:
Only one server in the cluster should be designated as the maintenance server.
To connect the maintenance server to both array controllers in the storage
subsystem:
1.
Connect the RJ12 connector on a communications cable to the
maintenance port on an array controller.
2.
Connect the 9-pin serial connector on the communications cable to
either the COM1 or COM2 port on the server.
3.
Connect the RJ12 connector on a second communications cable to the
maintenance port on the second array controller.
4.
Connect the 9-pin serial connector on the communications cable to the
unused COM port on the server.
NOTE:
Be careful to note which serial port is connected to which array controller. You will
need this information when setting up the communications program and configuring the
controller.
Powering On the MA8000/EMA12000 Storage
Subsystem
To power on a storage subsystem:
1.
Power on one of the Fibre Channel SAN Switches or Storage Hubs that
are connected by Fibre Channel cables to the storage subsystem.
IMPORTANT:
Do not power on the other Fibre Channel SAN Switches or Storage Hubs
until after installing the Secure Path software.
