Monitoring deduplication, compression, and performance After backup jobs have run, the DR Series appliance will track Capacity, Storage Savings, and Throughput on the dashboard. This information is valuable in understanding the benefits the DR Series appliance. Note: Deduplication ratios increase over time; it is not uncommon to see a 2-4x reduction (25-50% total savings) on the initial backup. As additional full backup jobs complete, the ratios will increase. As mentioned earlier, backup jobs with 12-week retention will usually average a 15x ratio. Understanding NetVault Backup VTL and cleaning cycles The DR Series appliances are capable of running a cleaning cycle on a regular basis to recover data space that is no longer required by the deduplication process.
