2 Installing and Uninstalling the SMI-S Provider System Requirements The system requirements to install and run the SMI-S Provider include: • Memory requirements-1 GB minimum (2 GB preferred). • Connectivity requirements-Ethernet with 100BASE-T minimum (Gigabit Ethernet preferred), TCP/IP. • Port requirements-TCP port 5988 or TCP port 5989, or any other available port if these ports are not available. • Storage array password-The device credentials profile requires the storage array password (SharedSecret) to modify operations. The SMI-S Provider persistently tracks an instance of the SharedSecret per storage array. Installing SMI-S Provider For Windows The SMI-S Provider is packaged as an installation executable file. To install the SMI-S Provider: 1 Move the SMI-S Provider installation executable file on the server where you want to install the SMI-S Provider and double-click the installation executable icon and follow the instructions on the screen. During installation, ArrayHosts.txt file opens. 2 Enter the HostName (s) or IP Address (s) of the MD storage array(s) to be managed by the host in ArrayHosts.txt, save and close the file. CAUTION: Enter only one of the two management ports' IP addresses of each array in this file. Do not enter the IP addresses of both management ports. 3 Click Finish.
