Superdome 2 IOX enclosures support two ac power supplies with a minimum of one power supply required to provide all necessary power to the enclosure and two power supplies providing 2N redundancy. Cooling subsystem Superdome 2 compute enclosures support up to 15 Active Cool Fan modules to provide thermal regulation in six fan zones. Each bank of fans (lower, middle, and upper) contains five fans split into two zones with the middle fan of each bank shared between the two zones. Fan speed is controlled by the OA firmware using a system algorithm to ensure optimum cooling. Each fan zone is in an N+1 configuration where a fan might fail in each zone, and the system continues to function. When a fan in a zone fails, the fan speeds of the functioning fans in the zone increases to compensate. If two or more fans in a zone fail, all components within that zone (including blades, interconnects and manageability modules) are shut down automatically by the OA. IOX enclosures include two 80mm fans per I/O bay in N+1 configuration. Manageability subsystem Superdome 2 is managed by the Superdome 2 Onboard Administrator (OA) which monitors overall complex health as well as information about individual components of the complex, and can accessed through a GUI from a remote terminal or through a CLI through a remote or a local terminal. Two GPSMs in each compute enclosure manage CAMnet fabric distribution to all server blades, XFMs and IOX enclosures in the complex and global clock sources for the complex. Fans and power supplies in the upper section of the compute enclosure are monitored and controlled by the GPSMs through OA. Also, the GPSMs provide power for the rack door display as well as USB connectivity for the compute enclosure DVD module. Each compute enclosure supports four XFMs that connect to IOX enclosures to provide additional I/O capacity to nPartitions. Superdome 2 IOX enclosures support two ac power supplies with a minimum of one power
supply required to provide all necessary power to the enclosure and two power supplies providing
2N redundancy.
Cooling subsystem
Superdome 2 compute enclosures support up to 15 Active Cool Fan modules to provide thermal
regulation in six fan zones. Each bank of fans (lower, middle, and upper) contains five fans split
into two zones with the middle fan of each bank shared between the two zones. Fan speed is
controlled by the OA firmware using a system algorithm to ensure optimum cooling.
Each fan zone is in an N+1 configuration where a fan might fail in each zone, and the system
continues to function. When a fan in a zone fails, the fan speeds of the functioning fans in the
zone increases to compensate. If two or more fans in a zone fail, all components within that zone
(including blades, interconnects and manageability modules) are shut down automatically by
the OA.
IOX enclosures include two 80mm fans per I/O bay in N+1 configuration.
Manageability subsystem
Superdome 2 is managed by the Superdome 2 Onboard Administrator (OA) which monitors
overall complex health as well as information about individual components of the complex, and
can accessed through a GUI from a remote terminal or through a CLI through a remote or a local
terminal.
Two GPSMs in each compute enclosure manage CAMnet fabric distribution to all server blades,
XFMs and IOX enclosures in the complex and global clock sources for the complex. Fans and
power supplies in the upper section of the compute enclosure are monitored and controlled by
the GPSMs through OA. Also, the GPSMs provide power for the rack door display as well as
USB connectivity for the compute enclosure DVD module.
Each compute enclosure supports four XFMs that connect to IOX enclosures to provide additional
