Fabric scalability Fabric OS 5.1.0 and later supports the same fabric scalability as Fabric OS 5.0.1, that is, 2,560 ports with 50 domains. Security-related enhancement Password aging, password enforcement, and password strength/history has been added to Fabric OS 5.1.0 and later. Fabric OS prerequisites and requirements Table 2 summarizes current Fabric OS firmware versions. These are the earliest recommended software versions that work together. However, HP recommends using the latest supported software release versions to get the most benefit from the SAN. CAUTION: HP does not support upgrades from more than two previous releases. For example, upgrading from Fabric OS 4.4.0 to 5.1.x is supported. However, upgrading from Fabric OS 4.2.0 or a previous release directly to 5.1.x is not. Upgrading a switch from Fabric OS 4.2.0 or earlier to 5.1.0 and later requires a two-step process: first upgrade to 4.4.0 or 5.0.1 and then upgrade to 5.1.0 or later.
