2. Check path configuration to the P-VOL and S-VOL using the multipath software command on the host. Set the owner and non-owner paths to the P-VOL. For more information about the multipath software commands, see the documentation provided with the multipath software. The following figure shows an example of how the Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager shows path configuration information. In this example, there are four configuration paths to a single volume in the primary storage system. Two of the paths are owner paths (Own), and two paths are non-owner paths (Non). How multipath software shows storage serial number for pairs Multipath software shows the serial number of the primary storage system for both the P-VOL and the S-VOL. However, the storage system model shown for both P-VOL and S-VOL is the earliest model used in your configuration, regardless of its location, primary or secondary site. • If you use P9500s on the primary and the secondary sites, multipath software shows the serial number of the primary storage system for both the P-VOL and the S-VOL. The storage system is shown as P9500. • When P9500 is used on the primary site and XP24000 is used on the secondary site, multipath software shows the serial number of the primary storage system for both the P-VOL and the S-VOL. The storage system is shown as XP24000. • When XP24000 is used on the primary site and P9500 is used on the secondary site, multipath software shows the serial number of the primary storage system for both the P-VOL and the S-VOL. The storage system is shown as XP24000. Splitting pairs When the pair is synchronized, data written to the P-VOL is copied to the S-VOL. This continues until the pair is split. When you split a pair, the pair status changes to PSUS and updates to the S-VOL stop. You can set an option to block updates to the P-VOL while the pair is split. This results in the P-VOL and S-VOL staying synchronized. If the P-VOL accepts write I/O while the pair is split, the primary storage system records the updated tracks as differential data. This data is copied to the S-VOL when the pair is resynchronized. The pair can be made identical again by resynchronizing the pair. NOTE: You can split a pair from either the P-VOL or S-VOL. Prerequisites The pair must be in PAIR status. 36 Working with volume pairs
