Chapter 5 Advanced Configuration This chapter describes how to configure the advanced features of your WG302 802.11g ProSafe Wireless Access Point. These features can be found under the Advanced heading in the main menu. Understanding Advanced Wireless Settings The default advanced wireless settings usually work well. These settings should not be changed unless you are sure it is necessary. Figure 5-1: Advanced Wireless Settings screen Table 5-1. Advanced Wireless LAN Settings Fields Field RTS Threshold Fragmentation Length Beacon Interval Preamble Type Description The packet size used to determine whether it should use the CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) or the CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) mechanism for packet transmission. This is the maximum packet size used for fragmentation. Packets larger than the size programmed in this field will be fragmented. The Fragment Threshold value must be larger than the RTS Threshold value. Specifies the data beacon rate between 20 and 3000. A long transmit preamble may provide a more reliable connection or slightly longer range. A short transmit preamble gives better performance. Long is the default.
