Chapter 7 Adding sound You can add sound to still pictures and change sound that has already been recorded. You can add approximately 4 seconds of sound to a picture. Mode dial setting Microphone 1 Select a still picture to add sound to it by using the arrow pad. ● Sound cannot be added to pictures with the mark. 2 In the top menu, select MODE MENU T PLAY T . 3 Press í to display START. button Arrow pad 4 Point the camera microphone towards the subject, then press to start recording. ● A bar is displayed to show the progress of recording. Note ● To obtain the optimum sound, the microphone should be placed no further than 1m (3.3 ft) away from the subject. ● When a new sound is recorded, the original sound is erased. ● function is not available when the card is protected (SmartMedia) or when " CARD FULL" appears (indicating there is no memory left). ● Sound may not be recorded when a card has insufficient memory. ● Sound recording may also pick up camera noises (e.g. buttons clicking, shutter movement, etc.). ● After recording, sound cannot be erased from pictures. However, you can replace the sound with silence by doing the above steps again while remaining quiet. 147
