DVD590M_17x 6/11/2003 1:42 PM Page 28 28 Parental Control Levels Some DVD and Video CD makers code the Disc so it will only play according to the level you set at the Player.The Parental Control level may apply to the complete Disc or to certain scenes on the Disc. Follow the steps below to set the Parental Level at which you want Discs to play. 1 Press Stop 9 twice to stop play completely. 5 2 Press SYSTEM MENU. 1 3 Press OK repeatedly to select the DVD SETUP menu. 4 Press 4 repeatedly to select "- - - -" beside PASSWORD. You can select PASSWORD only if play is stopped completely. 5 Use the Number buttons to enter your four-digit password. 6 Press 3 to select PARENTAL CONTR. 7 Press 1 or 2 to select a control level, then press OK. RATING EXPLANATIONS The rating numbers (1-8) compare to U.S. movie ratings as follows: • 8 - ADULT - Mature material; should be viewed only by adults due to graphic sexual material, violence, or language. • 7 - NC-17 - No children under age 17; not recommended viewing for children under age 17. • 6 - R - Restricted; recommended that parents restrict children under age 17 from viewing or allow children to view only when supervised by a parent or adult guardian. • 4 - PG 13 - Material is unsuitable for children under age 13. • 3 - PG - Parental Guidance suggested. • 1- G - General Audience; recommended as acceptable for viewers of all ages. Helpful Hints • Set PARENTAL CONTR to 8 if you want to watch all Discs.This will essentially turn off Parental Control and allow all Discs to play without requiring a password. • You can only select PARENTAL CONTR after entering a correct password.
